I had this when I was LA. Unfortunately they don’t sell in Michigan.
Ah well, guess I’ll have to pick it up when I head to NY for my birthday!

Portable Quest
Portable Quest could quite possibly be the most amazing throwback on the internet. It also doubles as a game for the Kindle.
It’s sort of like choose you own adventure, except there are no pictures and it’s harder.

Victor Levin, the guy who wrote Win a Date With Tad Hamilton, has written a book in email format.
I read the first few emails, not sure it’s the type of story I’d get invested in, but it’s an interesting concept and it’s practical too. Technically, we all tell stories through emails. A boy sends us something, we forward it to our friends, who give us feedback, then we reply. Voila! Our very own personal drama, documented in email format.
Anyways, all …

Glimpses by Lewis Shiner
Boing Boing Review:
“Glimpses is one of my favorite novels of all time; a haunting and sweet story about an alienated, lonely stereo repairman who discovers that he can slip into parallel dimensions in which the great, never-recorded rock albums (lost Beatles, Beach Boys, Hendrix, etc) may yet be made, and can bring recordings of the music back on his reel-to-reel. It’s a rare novel that can capture the raw energy of rock and roll, but Glimpses has …

I’ve started taking pictures of everything I want to remember. It’s probably why my reading list is so huge, it’s hard to forget what’s next when it’s on a pocket computer.
Apple’s next product should be iMemory. We back up our computers, why not our brains?
Reading list additions:

Good Show Sir. – The worst sci-fi/fantasy book covers.
Yeah, I don’t even know how people think these covers up. They’re pretty awesome (thanks for the link Rob).

Don’t you hate it when you’ve read through everything every author you love has written?
I do.
So when I come across a promising lists on the internet proclaiming to contain the top 100 science fiction books of all time, I’m likely to bookmark it.

I’m a little late on posting this but I thought I’d put it up anyways.
Mary Robinette Kowal has written her first novel, Shades of Milk and Honey, and she’s showing off the first chapter for free!
I liked it. Normally into watching period pieces instead of reading them, but this is like pride and prejudice plus magic.
Love it.

This might be my new favorite thing.
I’ve been hearing about it for a while now. It’s basically a site that helps you fund your creative projects.
Say you want to take time off to record a record, but you can’t afford to do it. This site connects you to normal people who back your project. You offer rewards and if you reach your goal the project is produced and you get paid. If not… Oh well.
There’s some speculation about whether or …

It’s a usbtypewriter!
Totally steampunk, and totally unnecessary.
Yet, I still want one.

Yup.
A computer has been published. It’s sort of hysterical when you think about it as an aspiring author.
The book is all about word association. I’d be interested to see it.

It’s sort of like TED but with pictures.
The videos are really interesting. A smart person talks and an artist draws. There’s a whole series of them on YouTube. Of what I’ve seen so far (and I’ve only seen three) this one is my favorite.
When I was a kid, I had to go to church on Sundays with my grandma when I stayed with her. After awhile I was always sooo bored. I kept wishing I could somehow make it more …

I hate when I burn through everything an author has written and I have to go out and hunt for new game. But fortunately for me (and you) Elana Johnson has started a meme called Spreading the Awesome where she gets the blogosphere help her post the best sci-fi and fantasy.
Looks like my debit card is going to have a date with Amazon later tonight…
My contribution:
Sandman – Neil Gaiman (the reasons why I now read comics)
Song of Ice and Fire …

I haven’t read a lot of zombie novels, but I might read The Loving Dead since Locus Magazine is serializing it online.
Plus, I really want to see how she made undead zombies hot.

Most of the books I find on writing, are actually about writing.
But not this time.
Stanislavski’s teachings are the foundation of everything theater, according to Wikipedia.
Since I’ve never acted, I can’t really say how much overlap there is between writing and performing; but with titles like: An Actor Prepares, Building a Character, and Creating a Role, there has to be at least a little, right?
Anyways, this three part series was recommended to me in grad school by my copywriting professor.
I can’t …
