A Backup For My Backup’s Backup

0

With a three-level deep backup system I doubt I’ll be having anymore computer problems.
It’s a tad obsessive, but I’m ok with that.

I’m Moving To Detroit

0

And it’s happening in a few days; hence, the lack of blogging.
I was going to write a huge blog post about it last Friday, but I haven’t had time to do anything other than plan and worry. So I’ll give you the short of it now:
Why: I got a new job, and it would have been silly to pass it up.
When: This Friday, the 12th.
Where: Detroit, but not the scary part. I’ll be in the less scary part.

Sorry.

I’ve been gearing up for something (which I reveal tonight) and it’s been sucking up all of my time. Not to worry though. Post should be more regular by the end of the week.

Fortune Favors the Bold (and those who make time for it)

0

If you haven’t noticed I’ve been having some time management issues the past three weeks. For various reasons things at work have picked up, and I went from not having enough time to write as much as I want, to getting done with work at 3 A.M.
Now being busy at work is what it is. It’s even given me a plausible excuse not to write: You’ve been up since 5 A.M. trying to fit the word “free” into one :30 …

Meet Weisz

0

Yep. My roommate got a puppy yesterday. He’s two months old and he’s some sort of Alaskan Husky mix.
Now I can’t lie, I don’t actually like animals. Wait, let me clarify. I like specific animals, sort of like how you like one person but not another. Animals have personalities and I just don’t like most of them. But Weisz is really f*ing cute. He’s calm. He gets all excited when he sees you, and he practically potty trained himself.
I approve …

Ahhh…The Weekend.

0

Last night was the first night I slept more than 4 hours all week. Work has been a bit crazy. But now that I have a few moments to myself I can catch up on all the other stuff I love to do: like blogging!
More posts to follow, and I may even pre-make post for next week. I have a feeling it’s going to be more of the same.

Went Camping

2

I went camping on Friday.
I posted about it, but the post never made it to the internet. Sorry.
But now that I’m back you can see all the pictures.

We’re at Olympic National Park (see how pretty it is). We had some difficulties finding a campsite due to a lavender festival in Squim. Where we ended up was literally Plan E.

You’re looking at a rain forest. Bet you didn’t know Washington had one. I definitely didn’t.

In the rainforest clovers are huge.
Oh, and this is …

Resources Update

0

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the resource page. I’d make up an excuse, but really I just haven’t done it, so why lie.
Here are a few new links. Some you’ve seen, some you haven’t.
Good Reads
Basically it’s a  online community built around book recommendations. Haven’t set up my account yet but I’ve been hearing good things about it.
KickStarter
Fund your dreams.

Hello

2

Happy 4th of July!
Wait, that was yesterday. But I’m about to go sit on a patio and have beers and burgers so technically it’s like the 4th all over again for me.
I’ll be back tomorrow with a real blog post or two, I promise. For now this will have to do.

Taking today off the blog to get my short story together for the Scalzi-Wheaton fan fiction contest. I’ll be back to entertain you tomorrow. Until then, enjoy this picture I found.

Yog’s Law

1

“Money should flow toward the author.”
I had to remind myself of that today when I got a disappointing email from the place that wanted to see the rest of my manuscript.
Turns out they’re actually a vanity press and a very sneaky one at that. Nowhere on their site is there any mention of buying your own books (a big VP tell). Even their authors don’t mention anything about it.
Ah, well. I think it’s time I start thinking about …

I’ve updated the resources page again. Below are the added links.
I’ve also changed the link for Scalzi’s book on writing (He told me about a  much cheaper version). The digital copy is only $7, compared to the hard copy on Amazon that’s going for $60.
Enjoy!

Potentially Good News

5

I got a bite back from one of my query letters yesterday!
They sent an email asking to see the rest of my manuscript. I know it’s not all said and done but it is nice to hear half of a yes.
I’m going to look over it today and then send it in tomorrow.
Wish me luck.

Reality vs. The Reality I’m Trying To Create: Addendum

0

Last night at dinner my friends had an intervention for me.
It seems that trying to get up at 4 AM is crazy; and that it would most likely turn me into a grouch that no one wants to deal with.
So, I’m changing my wake-up goal to 6 AM.
What can I say, they had me cornered.

Reality vs. The Reality I’m Trying To Create

0

I’m going to start getting up at 4am.
Not right away, that would be crazy. But I’m going to try to build up to it in 15 minute increments.
Why?
Because my real life obligations are stomping my dreams to death.
Well, it’s not that terrible, but I don’t have enough time to get stuff done.
There are enough hours in the day. I’m just sleeping through them right now.

Where I Stand

0

This weekend the lovely Claire will be a designing logo and the branding stuff for Writing Bros.
* doing my excited dance *
And the bravest thing I’ve done this week is change the main character of my second book back to a man.  For a bit I was worried, since I’ve never written a guy as lead.  But after a bit of talk about female vs. male speech patterns and thought processes and the ever useful idea of planning your story …

Vanity Presses Suck

0

I don’t know how it happened, but I accidentally sent one of my submissions to a vanity press.
I got a deceptively thick letter back from them last night, saying that they would love to help me publish my book if I agreed to buy 1,000 copies of it (at 50% off). Oh, and I’d I had to promise to do all the promotional work.
Hum… So what exactly are they doing? It’s like paying to self publish. If for some reason …
