Visualization
After listening to the Joe Blow Neo-Pro podcasts I decided to visualize my writing future. It wasn’t that hard to write out, but it was weird writing amazing things about yourself that you’re nowhere near achieving.
I’m glad I did it though. There was definitely a certain point in the process that I hadn’t really thought past. It’s something that can apply to anything you’re reaching for.
I may even make a flow chart out of mine.
Joe Blow Visualization Stuff
Vision
- Write an imaginary biography about the future you.
- Cover accomplishments: What kind of writer do you want to be known as?
Milestones
- Chart out the flags that will get you to the point where you can write that vision statement as a fact.
Achievable Goals
- Smaller goals that will allow you to reach your milestones.
- Example: Six short story submissions a year, one novel a year, etc…
- Daily targets that you can reach.
- Example: 500 words a day, one writing exercise a day, 15 minutes of free writing, finishing one chapter a day in a writing book, etc..
Reward goal achievement
- It’s important to associate achievements with rewards. You should stay within budget, but what types of rewards will do for which goals?
